Copanca kindergarten renovated with joint effort of authorities, donors and parents
A number of 365 children in Copanca commune of Causeni district will go to a refurbished nursery school with sports and playing grounds and will new books and toys. The kindergarten “Izvoras” is the 36th preschool education institution renovated as part of the Education for All - Fast Track Initiative Project, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The project involves central and local public authorities and international development agencies.
The kindergarten in Copanca will now accommodate by 50 local children and children from the neighboring village, Valea Verde, more. “Together with Valea Verde, Copanca extends over 13 kilometers. We intend to provide a minibus that will bring the children to school and to kindergarten. Several years ago, this nursery school was divided into several share parts and ran the risk of being destroyed. Now, it was renovated and we are glad that we saved it together,” the mayor of Copanca Mihail Tapu said at the reopening ceremony.
“So that more children could attend the kindergarten, the local public administration exempted 15 chidden from vulnerable families from paying food costs. Another 29 children from low-income families are fed free of charge at school,” said Tamara Chirman, the kindergarten’s director.
The nursery school was renovated at a cost of 659,000 lei. Out of this sum, 100,000 lei was provided by the Causeni District Council, 78,000 lei by the Copanca mayor’s office, while 20,000 lei represents the parents’ contribution. The equipment and furniture cost 182,500 lei, the Ministry of Education and Youth says in a communiqué.
So far, 569 communities in Moldova have benefited from assistance as part of the Education for All - Fast Track Initiative Project during 2006-2009, including for developing social partnerships in favor of early education.
The project is implemented with a grant offered to Moldova by the Catalytic Fiduciary Fund. The grant is administered by the World Bank, while the project’s activities are carried out by the Ministry of Education and Youth with the support of UNICEF.
