The head of the Perinatology Center at Balti Clinical Hospital, Mihail Tertea, has returned to his position despite being convicted of bribery at the beginning of last year.
The spokesperson for Balti Clinical Hospital, Andreea Galici, told IPN that Mihail Tertea was reinstated in his position after his employment contract suspension was lifted. According to the Bălți Court ruling from February 14, 2024, the doctor was fined but was not banned from practicing or holding leadership positions.
Mihail Tertea also did not face any disciplinary sanctions under the Labor Code.
"The hospital administration is making maximum efforts to combat corruption within the institution. Additionally, training sessions are being organized for medical staff," the hospital spokesperson stated in response to IPN.
In November 2023, the chief doctor of the Balti Perinatology Center was detained for passive corruption. A citizen reported that the doctor had demanded 7,000 lei in exchange for quality medical services and proper assistance during his wife's childbirth. In February 2024, the Balti Court sentenced the doctor to a 28,000-lei fine, without imposing a ban on holding public office.
