Convention on small-scale border traffic indicates normalization of Moldo-Romanian relationship, Romanian MFA

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued Saturday a statement to express its availability to start talks with Chisinau on the signing of the Small-scale Border Traffic Convention, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We hope the result of the negotiations will be positive and prompt. We are aware of the necessity of concrete achievements on the bilateral agenda, which would confirm the best intentions of both sides”, Romanian Foreign Minister Catalin Predoiu told reporters in Bucharest. According to the MFA's statement, the signing of the agreement is part of activities aiming to normalize the Moldo-Romanian relationship. At the same time, Predoiu expressed his satisfaction with the upcoming negotiations between the European Union and Moldova on a new legal arrangement. Diplomatic relations with Romania were frozen after the Moldovan government and the then ruling Communist party accused the neighboring country of fomenting violent protests in early April. Relations became even tenser with the introduction of visas for the Romanian citizens, the expulsion of the Romanian ambassador, and the resignation of the Romanian consul as a result of a sex scandal.
