The chairman of the National Farmers Federation Valeriu Cosarciuc supports farmers’ protests, while the deputy head of the parliamentary commission on agriculture Ion Balan considers these protests are unjustified. The two made relevant statements in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.
Valeriu Cosarciuc said the farmers are in a very difficult situation because the state didn’t provide subsidies to them. “Following the bans imposed by Russia, the farmers were unable to export their products to this country. On the other hand, neither the European market was very open. The Government promised we will receive subsidies and our losses will be compensated. We should only believe in the Association Agreement with the EU. The farmers support Moldova’s European course, but our authorities didn’t fulfill their promise. The farmers need money to invest in agricultural works. It’s good that there is solidarity between the agricultural producers,” he stated.
However, Ion Balan criticized the protests staged by the farmers. “The Government did a lot for the farmers during the last five years. They should understand that Moldova is now in a difficult situation. Owing to the elections and the investiture of the Government and then to the late adoption of the state budget law, the farmers didn’t get subsidies on time. I think the necessary money will be found by June and we will offer the farmers compensations. It’s true that the farmers encounter difficulties in obtaining loans from banks. But there are a number of attractive projects implemented in agriculture. In the near future, the Polish loan will also become operational. Only little patience is needed,” he said.
