Contradictory statements about Moldovan coalition amid visit by Russian official

Vladimir Voronin on December 5 said the PCRM and PDM formed the government coalition. Related statements were made in a meeting of the leaders of the two parties with the head of the Russian presidential administration Sergey Naryshkin, who arrived in Chisinau on Saturday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting Moldovan and Russian press reports. On Sunday in the afternoon, the Russian official had joint discussions with the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, PCRM heavyweight member Vadim Misin, the president of the PDM Marian Lupu and businessman Vlad Plahotniuc, who was under No. 2 on the Democratic Party's list of candidates for MP. The discussions took place at the residence of the Russian Ambassador to Moldova Valery Kuzimin and lasted for about two hours. Asked by reporters to comment on the situation, the PDM's president of honor Dumitru Diacov denied the information that his party would have formed a government coalition with the PCRM. “I think we must calm things down. I have not discussed with Mister Lupu yet, but I have no information as regards a possible agreement. The future government coalition will be formed neither by Moscow, nor Bucharest or Brussels. It should be created by the political parties that entered Parliament,” said Dumitru Diacov. The Russian official has also met with Acting President Mihai Ghimpu. After the meeting, the two said they discussed a wide range of issues regarding the post-electoral situation in Moldova and the Moldovan-Russian relations. “Mister Naryshkin's visit confirms Russia's interests in this area. They probably understood that an alliance between PL, PLDM and PDM is about to be formed,” said Mihai Ghimpu. According to him, the Kremlin's representative has not been invited by Moldovan officials. “He came on his own initiative. I did not invite him,” said the Acting President. The leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat, who did not meet with Sergey Naryshkin, told the journalists that he will state his opinion only after the PCRM and PDM publicly announce the formation of the alliance. The Russian official said he did not need to meet with Vlad Filat as the latter had recently a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg. In the context of the Russian official's visit, political analyst Corneliu Ciurea said Moscow is trying to contribute to the creation of a government coalition that would promote Russia's interests in Moldova and the region. Serghei Naryshikin, a former KGB general, stopped at a Chisinau hotel that is owned by Vlad Plahotniuc.
