Contractors involved in rigged biddings cannot supply food products to education institutions

The food products to schools and kindergartens in Chisinau are now delivered by suppliers chosen as a result of the bidding contests held last yearend. Alexandru Fleas, acting head of the Chisinau Division of Education, Youth and Sport, has told IPN that biddings were conducted for all the districts of the capital city and contractors involved in rigged biddings are not among the winners.

“Those business entities that were involved in the rigging of biddings took part in these contests and this is impudence. Their bids were surely rejected as we demanded that these companies should be put on the blacklist and this was done. Unfortunately, the legislation allows them to continue work and they can take part in these biddings and we cannot ban them from doing so,” stated Alexandru Fleas.

He added he instructed to reject the bids of the business entities with blemished reputation.

At the end of last November, 16 persons, who included nine public servants of education divisions, were arrested on suspicion of rigging biddings for supplying food products to schools and kindergartens in Chisinau. Particular business entities were favored in the public procurement process. Pursuing the goal of obtaining higher profit, the contractors delivered products of a low quality or even spoiled products.
