The contract for the privatization of the company Vestmoldtransgaz by the Romanian operator Transgaz will be signed on March 28. The works to build the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will start in the shortest period of time, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
“It is a very important thing and I care a lot about it. I want the largest part of this gas pipeline to be built by the end of my mandate so as to be proud of having ensured the energy security of the Republic of Moldova during my term in office,” stated the Premier.
Pavel Filip said a state is always in danger when it is supplied with gas from one source only. Therefore, the diversification of the natural gas supply sources is an energy security problem of Moldova.
The Premier noted that the electricity supply sources were diversified in a move to ensure the country’s power security. 30% of the necessary power is bought from Ukraine and 70% from the Kuchurgan Power Plant. There are preconditions for reducing the power tariffs by 8-9%. “There was approved a new methodology for calculating the tariffs and, taking into account all the included elements, I think the electric power tariffs could be decreased,” stated Pavel Filip.
