Contraband fish and cigarettes hidden in reservoir
A BMW with 120 kg of frozen fish and 280 packs of cigarettes hidden in the gasoline reservoir was stopped by the police at the entrance to the customs post Cahul-Oancea. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the contraband was estimated at 53,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The driver could not provide explanations or present certificates of origin for the goods.
Another case of smuggling was identified on the Giurgiulesti-Cahul road, in Vadul lui Isac village. The police stopped a Mercedes for checkup. After examining the car, the police found almost four tonnes of fresh tomatoes. The driver also could not present certificates of origin for the merchandise to the value of about 80,000 lei.
In both of the cases, the police are collecting evidence in order to hold the persons involved accountable.
