Contraband cars worth 600,000 euros
The Security and Information Service (SIS) identified and annihilated two illegal businesses selling motor vehicles imported from the European Union. The contraband was valued at over 600,000 euros, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Service.
As a result of investigations, the SIS employees discovered a number of illegal schemes to import and register European luxury cars and trucks.
According to the SIS, abusing the trust of a German economic entity, a Moldovan women purchased by leasing five luxury cars - Mercedes-Benz CL 500, Mercedes-Benz ML 320, Mercedes-Benz E 240, BMW X5 3.0D, VW Tuareg - in the name of her German partner.
After convincing her partner she would manage to sell the units of transport in Chisinau, the women smuggled them into Moldova. Helped by employees of the Ministry of Information Development, she registered them in Moldova using forged documents, without paying taxes and duties.
The German businessman appealed to the SIS as the suspect did not pay for the bought cars.
In the second contraband case, the SIS discovered that three Volvo trucks made in 2007 had been stolen from the Polish leasing company VFS Uslugi Finansowe Polska Sp. z.o.o. and brought into Moldova illegally. As in the first case, the registration documents were forged.
Legal action was taken over the two cases. The Security and Information Service in concert with the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime continue the investigations in order to establish all the circumstances of the two cases.
