Contest to modernize “George Coșbuc” Square in Chisinau

The local public authorities announced the launch of a contest to design the concept of the project to remodel the square situated at the intersection of the streets Alexandru Hâjdeu and George Coșbuc in Râșcani district of Chisinau.

Vasile Efros, head of the Development and Cleanup Section of the Public Amenities Division of Chisinau, has told IPN that the contest is held under a trilateral partnership between Mannheim of Germany, Chisinau and Cernăuți entitled “Rethinking of public area. Citizens model the future” . One of the major objectives of the project is to develop and model the social identity of the participating towns. The final goal is to recreate public areas in disadvantaged places though the citizens’ cooperation with the local authorities.

Vasile Efros said they discussed with citizens and these said how they want the square to look like. Lighting and irrigation systems will be installed in the square. There will be planted grass and put up benches, garbage bins, etc. All the formalities related to documentation and bidding are to be completed this year and the works will start next spring. About 800,000 lei is to be spend on the given works.

The winners of the contest will be decided by a municipal commission that will offer four categories of awards of up to 3,000 lei. The deadline for submissions is October 31, 4pm. The proposals will be submitted to 83 Stefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd, the General Architecture, Urbanism and Land Relations Division.
