Contest to fill vacancies on Press Council extended

The contest to choose members of the Press Council with the term in office during January 2019 – January 2021 was extended until January 10, 2019. The contest is open to candidates recommended by the journalistic community and consumers of media products from Moldova, IPN reports.

The Press Council has nine members. Five members represent the journalistic community, one of whom the media outlets of ATU Gagauzia, while four members represent consumers of media products. The members of the Press Council are chosen for a two-year term and work on a voluntary basis.

The candidates who represent the journalistic community can be proposed by media outlets (print media, broadcasting, news portals, journalistic professional organizations, etc.) and must know and respect the journalistic deontological principles, be impartial, professional and with authority in the field, with an experience in journalism of at least three years and should not be party members.

The candidates who represent consumers of media products can be suggested by a group of consumers of at least ten persons, trade union organizations, employer organizations, religious organizations, political parties and other public associations.

The file with the CV, recommendation letter and other required documents should be transmitted to the email address of the Press Council’s Secretariat secretariat@consiliuldepresa.md (scanned copies of documents) by January 10, 2019, 6pm.

The Press Council is an independent self-regulatory journalistic body created to increase the accountability of the media in the Republic of Moldova to the public. It examines complaints about the violation of provisions of the Journalist’s Deontological Code of the Republic of Moldova.
