Contest to choose PCCOCS chief annulled

The contest to select the chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) was stopped by a decision of the Superior Councilor of Prosecutors, IPN reports.

In the Council’s meeting, SCP member Constantin Șușu presented the information provided by the special commissions for the pre-selection of candidates for the post of head of PCCOCS. According to him, back at the start of February, four members of the commission announced their withdrawal. Eugeniu Rurac, one of the candidates, also quit.

“To my mind, the solution is to constitute a new commission that will decide whether to return or not to the verification of the eligibility criteria, conducting of interviews and assessment of the candidates who remained in the competition,” said Constantin Șușu.

Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru said the organization of this contest is not opportune as the process of assessing the candidates for member of the SCP goes on and the contest should be put off until the assessment is completed.

The members of the Superior Councilor of Prosecutors had deliberations and, as a result of these, the Councils president Angela Motuzoc announced the termination of the contest.

After prosecutor Eugen Rurac withdrew from the competition, two more candidates remained – prosecutor Sergiu Russu, who held the post of PCCOCS chief on an interim basis, and former prosecutor Andrei Matsko, who now practices as a lawyer.
