The contest to choose a Constitutional Court judge on behalf of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) failed, IPN reports.
The contest involved 11 candidates, namely Oleg Potîrniche, Teodor Cârnaț, Mihai Corj, Radu Țurcanu, Ilie Rotaru, Maria Strulea, Tatiana Răducanu, Procopie Zaharia, Nina Cernat, Mihail Petrache, and Gheorghe Balan.
Nina Cernat decided to withdraw from the contest, while Teodor Cârnaț, Gheorghe Balan, Mihai Corj, and Mihail Petrache were excluded from the competition by the CSM plenum.
The remaining candidates didn’t garner the number of votes needed for being designated as Constitutional Court judge in the June 22 meeting of the Council.
The Constitutional Court has six members who are named for a six-year term. Two judges are appointed by Parliament, two by the Government and two by the Superior Council of Magistracy. The seat of a judge named by the SCM remained vacant following the death of Eduard Ababei.
