Consumers with overdue heating bills are sued

Consumers in Chisinau with overdue heating bills are being sued as the heat and hot water utility Termocom continues its debt recovery efforts by pursuing forcible debt collection legal practices, in order to prepare itself for the upcoming heating season. The utility said in a press release that the owners of over 800 apartments are restricted in their right to engage in transactions with their property, and over 80 vehicles are under lien. Nearly 1,000 consumers have the access to their bank cards restricted. From the beginning of the year, residential managers together with the utility's lawyers have sent final warnings to over 2,000 consumers for debts totaling 138.6 million lei. About 8,000 summonses have been prepared, 5,000 of which are pending before courts. In addition to the debt itself, the consumers with debts also face court expenses and court enforcement officers' fees.
