Consumers in Rascani and Ciocana close to remaining without running water

The consumers in Chisinau's Rascani and Ciocana districts could remain today without running water. Union Fenosa stopped supplying electric power to some of the units of the water supplier Apa-Canal Chisinau and the water pumping pressure was lower than required. The problem was solved after a new debt rescheduling timetable was agreed, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca announced that the water supplier received an electricity bill of over 33 million lei at the end of October. The company's monthly revenues are lower than 30 million lei. Apa-Canal Chisinau now owes 11 million lei to Union Fenosa and about 11 million to the EBRD. The mayor called on the Chisinau residents to be responsible and duly pay for the consumed water. “I have all the respect for the protesters, but we run again the risk of remaining without water,” Chirtoaca said. “We are in a very difficult financial situation. The water charges in the municipality of Chisinau have not been raised during nine years,” said the director of Apa-Canal Chisinau Constantin Becciev. According to him, the new charges that will be used from October could bring the company an additional profit of 120 million lei a year.
