Consumers denounce quality of services provided by power suppliers

The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) asks the power distribution companies (REDs) to take measures and make sure that the legislation on the protection of consumers is observed and not to admit the violation of their rights. Such a request is included in the ANRE Administration Board’ decision regarding the removal of the setbacks identified while examining the complaints filed with the Agency in the first quarter of this year, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the ANRE director Anatol Burlacov, the decision was made following a larger number of complaints from consumers about the quality of the services provided by the power suppliers and about the acts through which their legal rights are violated. About a quarter of the 220 complaints submitted to ANRE by power consumers over January-March 2008 denounce the quality of the services (disconnections from the power supply, higher tension than admissible). The other complains dispute the decisions to be disconnected from the supply, the sums calculated by the suppliers for fraudulent consumption of power, the way in which the consumed electric power is calculated fro payment. Most of the complaints, 201 in number, have been filed by consumers supplied by RED Union Fenosa. ANRE expresses its regret that this company is repeatedly breaking the law. Under the present legislation, ANRE examines power consumers’ complaints about the services provided by the suppliers and acts within its competence. If the consumers do not receive an answer from the supplier in due time and if they are not satisfied with the measures taken by it, they can appeal to ANRE or to court.
