Consumers’ debts block activity of “Apa-Canal Chisinau”

SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” does not have sufficient financial resources to rehabilitate the water pipes in the capital city because a large part of the household users do not settle the debts for the consumed water, said the company’s director Constantin Becciev, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. In Monday’s meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Constantin Becciev said the company will continue the disconnections this week. “The housing stock managers and consumers do not realize that we live in a new epoch. We are no more in the Soviet Union. They consider that the state should solve all their problems, but the problems should be discussed at the general assembly of dwellers,” he stated. He also said that the water pipes in Chisinau are worn out. If they are not changed gradually, there will be serious accidents. “The pipes should have been replaced over ten years ago. We are trying to change them, but we are unable to buy materials because some of the consumers haven’t paid for water since January 1. A worn pipe burst last weekend and several quarters and suburbs of Chisinau remained without water,” said the director of “Apa-Canal Chisinau”. SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” manages over 100 km of water pipes. Currently, household users’ debts to the water supplier total over 300 million lei.
