A national consultative referendum will be held on February 24, 2019 simultaneously with the parliamentary elections. On November 30, Parliament adopted the decision concerning the holding of the plebiscite by the votes of 53 MPs, IPN reports.
The voters will answer with ‘yes’ or ‘no’ two questions in the referendum: if they want the number of MPs to be reduced from 101 to 61, and if they want the MPs to be recalled if they do not fulfil their duties.
The decision takes effect when it is adopted and is remitted to the Central Election Commission for organizing the national consultative referendum in accordance with the Election Code.
The initiative comes after the leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc over two weeks ago made an announcement about the referendum.
