The construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline that will have a length of about 120 km will be finished in May 2018, governmental experts said in a public debate on the project “Construction of the gas transportation pipeline on the Ungheni – Chisinau route”. These also said that the cost of the project would vary between €83 million and €100 million, IPN reports.
The experts carried out a feasibility study on the construction of the gas pipeline and established the best route options. Thus, in order to supply natural gas to Chisinau, the pipeline will cross several villages of Nisporeni district, will bypass Calarasi village and will go through Straseni.
The project’s technical consultant Iurie Sili said the pipeline will essentially change the natural gas market of Moldova and will enable to purchase gas at a lower price. “We will obtain an additional source that will allow us to ensure Moldova’s energy security. Through this pipeline, we will be able to obtain gas from Romania and from other countries of Europe,” stated the expert. He also said that jobs will be created when the gas pipeline will be built.
In another development, the technical consultant said the negative effects of the construction of the gas pipeline on the environment can be reduced to a minimum if the measures recommended in the feasibility study are put into practice. The damage to the crops done during the construction works will be compensated. The private land through which the pipeline will go will be bought from the owners or will be rented.
The Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline was put into operation in 2014. Afterward, the authorities planned to build a gas pipeline that would connect Ungheni and Chisinau.
