Romania's highway network is being developed at an unprecedented pace. Another 32 kilometers of the A7 motorway were inaugurated on tuesday, november 19, after two other stretches will be opened to road traffic. In total, 59 kilometers of the total 320 kilometers between Ploiesti and Pascani will be open to traffic this week. This section of highway will be added this year to the 1 115 km of high-speed roads already in Romania. The first lot of the A7 was the Bacaului ring road, inaugurated in December 2020, IPN reports.
The representatives of the government led by Marcel Ciolacu underline that the procedures are being continued for the other sections of the A7, from Pascani to Siret - the 118-kilometer border crossing with Ukraine. The A7 highway, which will link Moldova and Muntenia, will be fully operational by the end of next year. It will have a total length of 319 kilometers from Ploiesti to Pascani, and a 32-kilometer section linking Buzaul to Ramnicu Sarat will be open to traffic from wednesday, transport officials say.
Also in 2025, work will start on the construction of the first lots of the Union Highway (A8) and the Ungheni bridge over the Prut, which is now only a railroad bridge, but will also be a road highway.
The A8 Unirii highway will go as far as Chisinau, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced. The official in Bucharest says the vast project, already launched in Romania, is part of a long list of interconnection projects with Moldova.
"We have one more investment to make. To link Iasi with Chisinau. The Republic of Moldova is a prisoner of the Russian railroad system, the whole system is broad gauge. If you extend the highway from Iasi to Chisinau, it will be the first connection of the Republic of Moldova with Europe. And of course there will also be an explosion of investment for the Republic of Moldova", said Marcel Ciolacu.
The "Unirii" highway will be more than 300 kilometers long, from Targu Mures to the border with the Republic of Moldova, in the Ungheni village area in Iasi county.
The new bridge, which will connect Romania with the Republic of Moldova, will be designed with a highway profile and is part of the A8 Unirii highway project, which will reach as far as Chisinau. The bridge complex will consist of two parallel structures, each with a mixed steel and concrete deck and a continuous girder, one bridge in each direction. The longer of the two bridges will measure approximately 260 meters.
