The works to build a parking garage in front of the Chisinau International Airport, which will have a capacity of 823 places, have started. Petru Jardan, director of SRL “Avia Invest” that runs the airport based on a concession contract, told a news conference that the works will be carried out during nine months, while the cost of the project is about €7 million, IPN reports.
Petru Jardan stated that owing to the rapid growth of the passenger traffic, the planned construction works were launched earlier than planned. The parking garage was designed by specialists of the company “UrbanProiect”, while the construction works will be performed by “Exfactor Grup”. The tender contest to select the design of the future parking garage involved companies from Italy, Turkey and Germany, but the national companies submitted the best bids, both from technical and financial viewpoints.
“For the period of the construction works, the passengers of the Chisinau International Airport will benefit from a temporary parking lot for 260 places, laid out in the eastern part of the terminal within this project. I call on the people to park their vehicles there so as to avoid causing congestion,” said Petru Jardan, adding that the prices at the new parking lot will be the lowest in the region.
The representative of the building company “Exfactor Grup” Vladimir Tonu said that parking places will be also set up for persons with locomotor disabilities. There will be installed two elevators, for passengers and for freight, access ramps for visitors and vehicles, video surveillance systems and other equipment, in accordance with the European standards. An underground tunnel will be built in the future, from the parking garage to the new annex of the airport.
“Urbanproiect” director general Iurie Povar said the designing works started in March. Owing to the problematic soils, the project had to be modified.
The parking garage will be put into commission in April 2015.
