Construction of church in Kentford square suspended

The construction works on the church erected in the Kentford square of Chisinau have been suspended following an agreement reached with the administrator of the plot, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca announced in a news conference on October 25, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dorin Chirtoaca said that somebody is interested in creating a tense situation around this subject. He and the contractor agreed to take no steps in the near future as it will be a period of public debates. The mayor came to the conference with a model and the design of the future church. The images will be made available to the people so that they state their opinions on the construction. “I didn’t expect such a reaction from the mass media. What would Ruler Stephan the Great, who founded 47 monasteries, say about the negative reaction to the intention to build a church on the boulevard that bears his name? This makes me sad as this is disgusting,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca. Earlier, Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu said that the plot located in the square of the Kentford building was auctioned off based on a decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council and allocated in 2009, while the initiated construction works are legal.
