A number of dwellers of an apartment building situated at 32 Dimo St in Chisinau’s Rascani district have picketed the Chisinau City Hall this morning. They demanded that the mayor order stopping the construction works on a car wash in the park situated near their building. Dorin Chirtoaca told the protesters he is also against this construction and will suspend the works until the Supreme Court of Justice takes a final decision, Info-Prim Neo reports. The authorization for building the car wash was issued by deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu in March, at the request of a construction company. Afterward, at the insistence of the dwellers of the building located nearby, the deputy mayor withdrew the authorization, but the company filed a complaint to the Court of Appeals and won the case. ”About 200 persons have protested against the construction since May, but nobody reacted,” said one of the protesters. The dwellers stated the park was the only area where they could breathe fresh air. Gheorghe Cibotari, of the Ecologist Party “Green Alliance”, who lives nearby, said about 200 trees will be cut if the works are not stopped. Radu Busila, the jurist who defends protesters’ interests, said the construction company intends to build a three-story car wash on the people’s garages and on heating pipes. If the pipes burst, no immediate measures could be taken and the dwellers of several buildings would remain without heat. The date when the case will be examined at the Supreme Court of Justice is not yet known.
