The Constitutional Court’s decision on the unconstitutionality of the designation of Vlad Filat as Prime Minister is a political one, the head of the Democratic parliamentary group Dumitru Diacov said in the program “In Depth” on Pro TV channel over the phone. “The experienced jurists should look at things in a different way. I was surprised to find out that the Court rejected the requests of the Presidential Office and the Government to dismiss judge Victor Popa (former MP representing the Liberal Party – e.n.). Such a step showed that it was an unusual situation,” said Diacov, quoted by IPN.
In the same program, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said over the phone that the Constitutional Court sent a signal to those who hold public posts that there are laws in Moldova and the country can no longer be robbed.
Also over the phone, Communist MP Artur Reshetnikov said the Court’s decision confirmed that those who are suspected of acts of corruption cannot govern the country. “It is clear that the designation of Vlad Filat as Prime Minister is unconstitutional because he was discharged for acts of corruption,” he stated.
After deliberating for almost ten hours on April 22, the Constitutional Court ruled that the decree to designate Vlad Filat as a candidate for Prime Minister, issued by President Nicolae Timofti on April 10, is unconstitutional because the Government was dismissed by censure motion on suspicion of acts of corruption and is unable to do its duties. The head of state was to name a Cabinet member as acting Prime Minister who was to serve until the formation of the new Government. The challenge was filed by the Liberal Party.
