Constitutional Court rules law on status of legislator was modified illegally
The nine ministers of the Filat Cabinet who had been MPs simultaneously until recently held the two posts illegally. The Constitutional Court ruled that the amendments to the law on the status of legislator adopted by the government coalition are unconstitutional.
The judgment was passed on April 8 following a challenge filed by the Communist parliamentary group six months ago. The Court decided that the modifications were introduced illegally as the Constitution of Moldova says the given posts are incompatible.
Judge-rapporteur Petru Raileanu told Info-Prim Neo that the Constitutional Court's decision has no effect as the ministers who held the post of MP simultaneously quit as legislators when the term stipulated by the modified law expired.
