Constitutional Court denies criticism of PLDM
“No political party or public institution has the right to intervene or interfere in the activity of the Constitutional Court,” the Court’s president Dumitru Pulbere said at a briefing on June 12, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Dumitru Pulbere said that after the elections for the 17th Parliament were validated, the Constitutional Court became the target of insulting remarks and criticism leveled by the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), being accused of avoiding fulfilling its duties, partiality, non-objectivity and political bias in the interests of the ruling party.
“Denying vehemently these accusations, the Constitutional Court declares that it is independent from any public authority and obeys only the Constitution,” Dumitru Pulbere said. “The decisions of the Constitutional Court are definitive and mandatory and cannot be subjected to attack. The Court considers the unfounded attacks and arbitrary interpretation of the constitutional norms as attempts to undermine its role in the society and its activity as a guarantor of the supremacy of the Constitution,” Pulbere said, quoting the Constitutional Court’s statement.
He also said that the Constitutional Court is not empowered to modify the legislation and cannot interpret the Constitution as someone likes, while the attacks on the decisions made by the Court are attacks on its independence and its judges.
