Moldovan pugilist Constantin Ursu won a bronze medal at the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships in Italy. In the semifinals, he lost to Russia’s Ilia Popov, IPN reports.
Earlier, Tudor Ciobanu’s pupil beat the boxers of the Netherlands, Italy and France. Ranked among the top five in the 64 kg weight class, Ursu secured a place at the World U-18 Championships where he can compete for one of the five tickets to the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
At the competition in Italy that ends on April 26, Moldova was also represented by: Dumitru Macaria (49 kg), Danila Nicitenca (52 kg), Anton Nicitenca (56 kg), Victor Canapliov (60 kg) Nicolae Bucsa (69 kg), Andrei Kiriakov (75 kg) and Igor Radionov (+91 kg).
