Former Democratic MP Constantin Țuțu entered Romania on August 29, 2019 through the Siret border crossing point on foot. He is listed as a Romanian citizen with the domicile in Romania, says a response to the National Anticorruption Center provided by the Interpol National Central Bureau in Bucharest, IPN reports.
The Bucharest Interpol Bureau also said that the police unit was instructed to carry out searches at the domicile of Constantin Țuțu and a response will be provided later.
According to the NAC, the response also says that the Romanian citizens cannot be arrested for being extradited. In such cases, the Moldovan judicial authorities can request the Romanian authorities to recognize and implement penal decisions or can transfer the penal procedures.
Constantin Țuțu was listed wanted nationally and internationally at the end of last September. The Ciocana branch of the Chisinau City Court issued a warrant for his arrest for a 30-day period because he avoided prosecution. The press reported that Constantin Țuțu fled Moldova immediately after the Democratic Party conceded government to the ACUM Bloc and the Party of Socialists.
Later, on October 1, the then acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu ordered to take legal action against Constantin Țuțu over unjust enrichment in 2014-2018. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, investigations showed Țuțu owns property whose value is much higher than the incomes declared by this in the period, including luxury cars and real estate.
