Constantin Codreanu: Romanian nationality should be recognized, not regained

The law on Romanian nationality was thought up in an incorrect way and should be adjusted, a member of the Romanian Parliament Constantin Codreanu, who heads the commission for Romanian communities outside borders, stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

According to him, the law allows for regaining the Romanian nationality, but the Bessarabians have never renounced it. “And then, how one can regain something that wasn’t renounced, on the one hand. On the other hand, the Romanian state has never issued an official document to state that the Romanian nationality is withdrawn from us, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Constantin Codreanu.

In this connection, the MP said that he staged in Chisinau a legislative workshop where there was drafted a bill that will be submitted in October. This defines a new concept of the process of obtaining Romanian nationality. “We actually speak about the recognition of a right that we always enjoyed and that we didn’t renounce,” he stated.

To improve the law on Romanian nationality, Constantin Codreanu suggests one more change – to provide Romanian nationality to those who belong to the Romanian cultural world.
