State secretary of the Ministry of Energy Constantin Borosan said that the Rybnitsa Steel Works can operate, but at a minimum capacity. The clarification was made for IPN after the leader of the Transnistrian administration Vadim Krasnoselsky admitted that the gas supplied to the Transnistrian region is partially used in industry.
Constantin Borosan stressed that in November, the Russian Federation bombed Ukraine's energy infrastructure, destroyed the Podolsk power station, which supplied the Rybnitsa Steel Works, which makes it impossible to operate at the declared capacity.
The state secretary noted that, at the beginning of February, he visited plants in Rybnitsa and Tiraspol, which were not working at that time.
Constantin Borosan reiterated that gas supplies to the left bank of the Nistru should not exceed 3 million cubic meters per day. "We follow the situation daily, based on the reports of transport operators, so that there are no exceedances," said the official.
He also said that it is essential that the people are provided with gas so that they do not endure cold.
The leader of the Transnistrian administration Vadim Krasnoselsky said that the daily volume of 3 million cubic meters of gas is directed not only to household consumers and for the production of electricity, but also to industry. The statements were made after the visit made last week by the head of the European Union Delegation Jānis Mažeiks to the Rybnitsa Steel Works.
For his part, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian said that recent reports about the reopening of large heavy industry enterprises in the Transnistrian region were not confirmed. According to him, for now only small and medium-sized enterprises of the food and light industries are operating.
In February, Chisinau and Tiraspol agreed on a scheme to deliver natural gas to the left bank of the Nistru. The limitation of industrial production was one of the conditions imposed on Tiraspol. It was announced that additional taxes will be imposed for any exceedance of the coordinated volume.
