The Republic of Moldova is concerned about the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region, especially the restriction of the freedom of expression. Vladimir Cuc, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke about this at the high-level segment of the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council, IPN reports.
The Moldovan official emphasized that the authorities are carefully monitoring the situation of Moldovan-administered Latin script schools in the Transnistrian region. In his speech, he noted that the Republic of Moldova continues to stand in solidarity with Ukraine by offering humanitarian, political and diplomatic aid to the neighboring country and also by providing shelter to Ukrainian refugees in the context of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Externally, the Republic of Moldova participates in the international efforts to create mechanisms to hold accountable those involved in the commission of war crimes, joined the Register of Damage caused by the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine, approves of the work of the Independent Commission of Inquiry in Ukraine, which operates under the aegis of the Human Rights Council, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Vladimir Cuc noted that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova will continue to fulfil the commitments in the field of human rights, which are an important pillar of the EU accession process. The Government’s policies in this regard will be presented in the next edition of the National Human Rights Action Plan, which is at the final stage of coordination.
The high-level segment of the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council takes place from February 26 to 28 in Geneva. It brought together officials from around the world, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, foreign ministers and high-ranking government officials.
