The Central Market should be developed, equipped and freed from corruption. As a result of its modernization, the enterprise could obtain a significant rise in its turnover, said Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban, who presented the conception for modernizing the Central Market of Chisinau, IPN reports.
Under the concept, public parking places will be set up on the streets Armenească and Tighina and a paid parking lot on Mitropolit Varlaam St, in the area between the streets Bulgară and Armenească, for 50-60 cars.
Interactive boards with information about the available commercial places, rental and location of places will be placed at the entrance to the market. The commercial place rental setting methodology will be reviewed. The paving will be replaced, the equipment will be renewed and the market will be roofed.
The draft conception was published on the Chisinau City Hall’s website for public discussions.
In the morning of May 12, dozens of traders protested near the gates of the Central Market, demanding to reopen it so that they could work. In a reaction on Facebook, Ion Ceban assured that the over 5,000 persons who work at the market will not remain without jobs. But the decision to reopen the market during the pandemic can be taken only by the Commission for Exceptional Situations.
On May 11, the markets all over the country, except for those in Chisinau and Bălți, were reopened.
