The Comrat Court of Appeals has ruled as illegal the election of Serghei Cernev as president of the Gagauz People's Assembly. The court gave the case to Communist legislator Demian Caraseni on June 2, annulling all the decisions of 16 June, 2008, referring to invalidating the elections of 12 June, to electing the president, vice presidents and chairs of steady committee, the chairwoman of the Comrat Court of Appeals, Elena Lazareva, has told Info-Prim Neo. The reasons are to be made public next week, Elena Lazareva said. The court's writ may be appealed at the Supreme Court of Justice within 20 days. Those 18 parliamentarians who had elected Serghei Cernev did not attend the court session. In a statement addressed to the court and signed by Serghei Cernev the those MPs said they did not trust the Comrat-based Court of Appeal and consider its judges to be political biased and ready to make any decision in the favor of the Communists Party. Those 18 MPs says they will appeal the writ. The legislator representing the Ravnopravie Movement, Sergei Cernev, was elected on June 16, without the attendance of the Communist legislators, who later sued the decision. The Communist deputies consider the position should be occupied by the Communist Demian Caraseni, elected on June 12 with the votes of 18 legislators. Then, three ballot were declared invalid. The counting commission declared illegal the election of Demian Caraseni, since the president of the Gagauz parliament is elected with the votes of half plus one MPs. The People's Assembly is formed of 21 independents, 10 Communists, two Democrats and two Ravnopravie deputies.
