A belt road skirting the city of Comrat has been opened for traffic. The construction is part of a broader project to rehabilitate road M3 to Giurgiulesti.
The 18.3 kilometers long construction has three roundabouts, four grade-separated junctions, five road bridges, a railway overpass, and over 300 road signs.
“With the opening of traffic on the Comrat beltway, road traffic will be reoriented and this will decongest traffic through the city of Comrat and increase road safety. At the same time, this means more safety and peace of mind for the residents, given that until now, cargo trucks passed on the municipal roads, past the houses, causing degradation to roads and homes”, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development said in a statement.
The construction started in 2019. The project had a cost of 29.4 million euros, with the money being borrowed by the Moldovan Government from the European Investment Bank.
