Composition of IFAD program supervision committee modified

The Government approved the new composition of the committee for supervising the programs of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc will head the committee, Info-Prim Neo reports. The committee also includes Deputy Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov, deputy head of the parliamentary commission for agriculture and food industry Ion Balan, head of the State Chancellery’s foreign assistance division Lucretia Ciurea, division head at the Agriculture Ministry Iurie Brumarel, department head at the National Bank Lucia Hadarca, and division head at the Ministry of Finance Elena Matveev. The committee promotes the policies regulating the work of the Consolidated IFAD Programs Implementation Unit and mobilizes the additional resources needed for implementation. Moldova joined IFAD in 1996. Since 2000, the Fund has financed four projects in Moldova, contributing US$51 million. The Rural Finance and Small Enterprise Development Project to the value of US$8 million was completed in 2005. The other three are being implemented – Agricultural Revitalization Project (US$15.5m), Rural Business Development Project (US$14.3m), and Rural Financial Services and Marketing Program (US$13.2m). The beneficiaries of the IFAD programs in Moldova total over 3,800. They were released loans in the amount of about 630 million lei.
