Composer Eugen Doga turns 85 today

Composer Eugen Doga celebrates his 85th birthday today, March 1. On this occasion, a master’s evening will be staged as part of the Music Festival “Martsishor – 2022” at the National Palace in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Eugen Doga was born in Mocra village in the Transnistrian region in 1937. He studied at the Music School “Stefan Neaga” and then at the State Conservatory in Chisinau and the Institute of Arts “Gavriil Muzicescu”.

Eugen Doga is the author of the ballets “Luceafarul” (Stellar dreams of the princess), “Venancia” (Grimaces of carnival), “Regina Margo”, and the opera “Love dialogues”. He wrote over 100 instrumental and choral pieces of music, six quartets, music for 12 plays and radio programs, the soundtrack for about 200 films, hundreds of songs and romances, about 70 waltzes, pieces for different musical instruments and music for children.


In January 2014, there was opened the festive hall “Eugen Doga” that brings together musicians, politicians, artists and businesspeople.

Eugen Doga holds the titles of People’s Artist of the Republic of Moldova and People’s Artist of the USSR. He is a laureate of the National Award and State Award of the USSR, a knight of the Order of the Republic and of other national and foreign awards and honorific titles. He is also a titular member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

The Chisinau Municipal Council adopted a decision to declare 2022 the Cultural Year “Eugen Doga” in a bid to popularize the composer’s works.
