Composer Eugen Doga accuses politician Igor Dodon of using his song “Codrii mei frumosi” ( “My beautiful Codri”) in a video with electoral character without his consent.
In a news conference, Eugen Doga said that he was in Moscow when he was phoned by Angela Sirbu, director of a Chisinau magazine, and was asked to give his permission for using the song. On March 27, the composer signed a contract with Independent Media SRL, by which he allowed the company to use his song.
Eugen Doga said that he was misled. He was told that the song will be used to promote Moldova’s image in a video titled “I love Moldova”, but wasn’t informed that the video was political in character. When the video appeared on the Internet, he was surprised to see there the symbols of the Party of Socialists. The composer terminated the contract and paid back the honorarium of €400 received from the company.
“All my life I have worked for music that ennobles spirituality. But many politicians dare to sell the memory and dignity of the whole people. I love Moldova too, but in a different way,” he stated. As to politician Dodon, Eugen Doga said he promotes spiritual separatism and never heard him speaking about Moldova’s values.
The video was withdrawn after Igor Dodon was issued with a summons concerning the violation of copyright.
