The Association “UNIREA - ODIP” will file a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office and will demand that President of Moldova Igor Dodon should be investigated for selling the site where the Cemetery of Romanian Heroes is now located in 2007, when he served as minister of economy. The complaint will be submitted on November 2, at 12 noon. On November 1 at the same hour, members of the Association will picket the Presidential Building and will seek explanations from the President.
In a news conference at IPN, “UNIREA - ODIP” chairman Vlad Biletski said that by a Government decision of August 2007, the then Premier Vasile Tarlev allowed the Ministry of Economy led by Igor Dodon to privatize three state-owned plots of land. The Cemetery of Romanian Heroes is situated on one of those plots that was the largest of the three. This is located at 17 Decebal St in Chisinau.
According to Vlad Biletski, shortly afterward the Government allocated 2 million lei from its Reserve Fund for demolishing the building of the former Institute of Pulmonology “Kiril Draganiuc” that was seriously damaged and the church situated on the territory of the Cemetery. Everything was done in only seven days of the adoption of the last decision so that the plot could be easier privatized. Nothing was erected on that area for 11 years even if it was privatized.
“UNIREA-ODIP” calls on the authorities to intervene and allocate another plot to the buyer so that the Cemetery of Romanian Heroes is not touched, while the association will restore and lay it out.
Pavel Vintilă, a member of “UNIREA-ODIP”, said pressure will be exerted on Igor Dodon so as to find out the reasons for the privatization of the plot on which the Cemetery of Romanian Heroes is now located. “As we devoted our attention to the Cemetery of Romanian Heroes on the centenary year, we will also look for answers about its privatization,” stated Vintilă.
The plot was privatized at the price of €70 million and a block of flats was to be erected on that place.
