Competition for position of leader of PCCOCS

The Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) has initiated the competition for the selection of the candidate for the position of Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS). Applications can be submitted until August 26, IPN reports.

The public competition is to be held in two stages. The first stage is the pre-selection of candidates by a commission set up by the SCP. The commission will be made up of five members – one proposed by the President of the country, one proposed by the Ministry of Justice, and the other three proposed by the Superior Council of Prosecutors. The second stage includes the selection of the candidate for the position of PCCOCS Chief Prosecutor by the SCP from among the eligible candidates.

“The candidates must have at least 10 years of professional experience in the field of law, obtained in the jurisdiction of the Republic of Moldova or foreign jurisdictions, including in international organizations, of which at least 4 years in the position of judge, prosecutor, lawyer or criminal prosecution officer. They must have the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova and know the Romanian language. A judicial protection measure should not be imposed on the candidate. Another condition is to have a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in the field of law, etc.”, said Mariana Cherpec, a SCP member.

Starting with January 2023, by the SCP decision, the position of head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases has been held on an interim basis by prosecutor Victor Furtună.
