Compensated drugs to over 700,000 people

More than 700,000 persons in 2016 benefitted from compensated drugs whose price is partially or fully covered from the mandatory health insurance funds. The figure is by 18,000 higher compared with 2015, IPN has learned from the National Health Insurance Company.

Most of the recipients got compensated drugs for treating cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. 53.7% of the medicines were fully compensated. Of the total number of recipients, over 223,000 were children younger than 18.  A sum of 425 million lei was used to compensate the drugs.

For the patients to benefit from compensated drugs, they must obtain a prescription showing the common international name of the drug from the family doctor, of the pediatrician, endocrinologist, psychiatrist or neurologist, depending on the case.

The list of compensated drugs now includes 134 common international names of drugs after it was extended by 65 names last year.
