Community kindergarten enlarged with Romanian co-funding

A kindergarten in the commune of Geamăna, Anenii Noi district, has received a capacity upgrade that enables 150 additional children to attend it. The renovation of the establishment’s third block came at a cost of 7 million lei, and 2.4 million lei was contributed by the Romanian Government.

Geamăna mayor Eduard Sturza told IPN the kindergarden now has six groups, with two in each block located in different areas of the commune. The last two groups have been opened following the rehabilitation of a building abandoned in the 2000s.

The renovation had a cost of 7 million lei from various sources, including 2.4 million lei granted through the Romanian Government-funded program of technical and financial assistance for Moldova’s pre-schools, implemented by the Social Investment Fund FISM.

Attending the launch ceremony, Romanian Ambassador Daniel Ioniță said the event has a twofold significance. Firstly, it marks the completion of a project co-financed by Romania and in a period when Romania has the rotating presidency of the EU, too. Secondly, the ambassador said he finds it symbolic that the renovated building is located on the street named after Stephen the Great, “an emblematic figure of the Romanian peope”.
