Communists&Socialists propose legislation to make Moldova permanently neutral

The Bloc of Communists and Socialists is proposing a bill that aims to “consolidate mechanisms for ensuring the permanent neutrality” of Moldova. The draft was presented today in a press conference, IPN reports.

The bill’s creators say that “neutrality is not just an ideological expression, but a practical principle of ensuring the country’s independence and protection against harmful intervention from outside”.

According to the MP Vlad Batrîncea, the bill contains measures on the inviolability of Moldova’s borders and territory, specifies the role and place of foreign military forces, the conditions of international military cooperation, the role and place of the Republic of Moldova in humanitarian missions and international assistance, assistance provided by the Republic of Moldova, the military cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with the UN, the role and place of public authorities in the context of permanent neutrality and the international relations of the Republic of Moldova in conditions of permanent neutrality.

The bill’s creators claim that up to 90 percent of Moldova’s population are in favor of a permanent neutral status and thus request the parliamentary majority to endorse it.
