Communists submit simple motion against Constitutional Court judges

The Communist MPs, in the November 10 sitting of Parliament, announced that they officially put forward a simple motion against the judges of the Constitutional Court. Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu replied that a motion against constitutional judges cannot be submitted, IPN reports.

The leader of the Communist parliamentary group Inna Supac said the motion was also signed by their Socialist colleagues so that the necessary number of signatures was gathered. The motion says the president of the Constitutional Court more often comments not only on decisions taken by the constitutional jurisdiction authority, but also on particular political subjects, violating the principle of independence. The MP also invoked the Constitutional Court’s judgment on the official language spoken in the Republic of Moldova. According to the Communists, this decision represents a slap given to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and generates a national identity conflict.

The Speaker noted that the Parliament’s regulations do not envision the possibility of submitting motions against judges. Andrian Candu advised the Communist MPs to consult the legislative body’s law division.
