Communists say they are ready for early elections

The Communist Party (PCRM) is ready for early legislative elections, the first deputy speaker of Parliament, Communist MP Vladimir Turcan said Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The party is fully ready for early elections and, as far as I know, the voters are also ready. Even those that voted last time for other parties and those that did not go to the polls are now ready to vote for the Communist Party,” Turcan told the reporters. “The people are concerned about what’s happening in the country, what happened immediately after the elections and what will happen to all of us if we have early elections,” the Communist MP said. Asked if the PCRM found “the golden vote” that will allow it to choose the head of state, Vladimir Turcan said: “This is not our problem. The Opposition should think about it because the voters are very dissatisfied that the Opposition insists on early elections. That’s why we did not look for the missing vote. Some say we tried to get it by blackmail, vote buying, etc. We did nothing of the kind and consider that those that are mature and responsible from political viewpoint and patriots are obliged to vote or at least to take part in the voting. Turcan considers that Zinaida Greceanii is a neutral, compromise candidate that should suit the Opposition. “She is not a party member and everybody knows that she is a professional. She has all the qualities needed to hold this post. In fact, the problem does not reside in the candidacy of Zinaida Greceanii. The Opposition leaders do not say that the candidate is good or bad. They simply do not take part in the voting because they want early elections,” Vladimir Turcan said. He also said that if the MPs do not elect the head of state on May 28 either, the outgoing president Vladimir Voronin will dissolve the legislative body and announce early elections that will be on the conscience of the Opposition. According to Turcan, in such a case the outgoing president will name a Prime Minister that will form the Government and will propose the program of activity. “If the president is not elected on May 28, the Prime Minister could be appointed the next day or on the first days of the next week. After the Government is formed, the Parliament will be dissolved and the date of early elections will be fixed,” Turcan said. On May 20, the Parliament did not manage to elect the president of Moldova. Zinaida Greceanii polled 60 votes of the 61 required. All the votes were cast by the Communist MPs. The Opposition did not take part in the voting. A new round of voting will be held on May 28. The Opposition has repeatedly announced it will not participate in the election of the president as they want early elections. The parliamentary group of the PCRM holds 60 seats of MP and needs one more vote to elect the head of state.
