Communists say pressure put on Bagirov to calumniate them

The Communist Party's parliamentary faction in a formal letter is asking Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco to verify information that pressure is being put by law enforcement agents on Russian blogger Eduard Bagirov to make false statements about the involvement of Communist members in the April 2009 events, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Today we can state with all certitude that the Security and Intelligence Service has become a political police force that carries out all the illegal orders and instructions from the representatives of the current anti-popular regime. Instead of attending to its principal duty, namely to prevent risks to national security, the Security and Intelligence Service is chasing Communist deputies by tapping their phones and fabricating lies and political provocations against them”, it is said in the letter. The Communist faction went on to add that it possessed information that more other persons, both Moldovan nationals and foreigners, were pressured into making false testimonies against Communist members, in particular against MP Mark Tkaciuk, in connection with the April 2009 events. “In his interviews and publications, Eduard Bagirov says he was subjected to pressure in pursuit of evidence against Mark Tkaciuk. According to Bagirov, in numerous informal interrogations, SIS agents and prosecutors not only asked openly for false testimony against MP Mark Tkaciuk, but also claimed that the president himself was up to date with the developments of the investigation”, said the Communist faction. Russian author and blogger Eduard Bagirov has been arrested in Chisinau on suspicion of being involved in organizing violent protests on 7 April 2009.
