The Communists Party demands that the legislative body review, before dissolution, the amendments to Article 87 of the Election Code, concerning the redistribution of seats after elections, adopted by the MPs of the governing alliance in June, Info-Prim Neo reports. Earlier, the seats of MP were redistributed according to the results obtained by the parties that entered Parliament. Now the non-distributed seats will be distributed successively, by one to each party, starting with the election contender that won most of the seats, in descending order. “The Alliance for European Integration passed these amendments for fear they will not poll enough votes in the next parliamentary elections. The member parties modified the electoral legislation so that they can get a parliamentary majority even if they lose the elections,” Communist lawmaker Grigore Petrenko said in a news conference. The MP said it is not right for the small parties that obtain 4-5% in elections to get a double number of seats as a result of seat redistribution. “This is an unprecedented case. Nowhere in the world can a political party that lost the elections obtain a parliamentary majority. How can a party win 4% of the ballot, but obtain 8% of the seats after redistribution?” Grigore Petrenko asked. His colleague Anatolie Zagorodnyi said the ruling alliance adopts laws that run counter to the democratic principles. “These amendments are not in accordance with the Venice Commission’s recommendations, which say the rules cannot be changed during the game. The governing alliance did not take these recommendations into account and violates all the European principles,” he said. In another development, Anatolie Zagorodnyi said the Communists Party is against Speaker Mihai Ghimpu’s initiative to eliminate the referendum threshold.
