Communists refuse membership in commission for improving electoral legislation
A special parliamentary commission responsible for optimizing the electoral legal framework has been formed with the vote of Parliament's majority. The Communist faction abstained from the vote, refusing membership in the commission altogether. The decision was voiced by Communist MP Vadim Misin, after the ruling Alliance for European Integration (AEI) secured chairmanship and vice-chairmanship of the commission for themselves, offering the Communists 5 seats in the commission, including the post of secretary.
“For this contempt, we are announcing our refusal to participate in the works of this commission”, said Vadim Misin.
The proposal to form the commission, as initially drafted by Liberal Democrat MP Vitalie Nagacevschi, provided for 11 members, including 5 Communists and 6 AEI members.
Chairman was appointed Valeriu Nemerenco of the Liberal Party, and vice chairman Democrat Aurel Baiesu. After the Communist faction refused the post of secretary, it went to another Liberal MP, Oleg Bodrug.
According to Nagacevschi, the commission is to examine the situation in the wake of the April 5 elections, examine the flaws of the electoral legislation, draft amendments and submit them to Parliament.
The Communists criticized the initiative as “useless”.
“Could it be that the AEI are beginning to get ready for early elections with this?”, Communist MP Igor Vremea asked rhetorically.
“There are some excessive interpretations of this initiative. We will consider relevant proposals from the Communist Party and the Central Election Commission in order to improve the electoral framework in Moldova”, assured Nagacevschi.
