Communists oppose live broadcasts from Parliament

Communist MPs on Thursday rejected the proposal to consider some draft laws which would allow private radio and TV stations to broadcast live transmissions from Parliament. The proposal to include the bills in the sitting’s agenda came from MPs Igor Klipii and Gheorghe Susarenco, who stated that there are 3 bills on the issue and they should be discussed. Head of the Legal Committee, Vladimir Turcan, said that because of the busy schedule of the committee, the bills cannot be analysed at the moment. The communist majority voted against the proposal of the two MPs. MP Veaceslav Untila suggested that the Friday’s sitting, during which the 2008 State Budget Law will be examined in third reading, should be transmitted live at the national radio and TV stations. His proposal had the same fate. At the end of July, the private radio station Vocea Basarabiei announced its willingness to broadcast Parliament’s sittings live, on its own expenses. However, no decision was made on the issue. At the end of the last session, communist MPs stated that the legislation does not provide for the live transmission of the sittings by private broadcasters, while the members of the Opposition argued that the public character of the Parliament’s sittings should be taken into account first of all.
