Communists on top in surveys
If elections were held next Sunday, the Communists Party would poll 39% of the vote, the Liberal Democratic Party - 21%, the Democratic Party - 19%, while the Liberal Party - 13%. The Moldova Noastra Alliance would not enter Parliament as it would win 2% of the poll. It would be slightly outstripped by the European Action Movement with 3%. These are the results of a survey made public by CBS-AXA on November 4, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Communist leader Vladimir Voronin has a popular approval rating of 21%. He is followed by Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu with 14% and 10% respectively. The Liberals Mihai Ghimpu and Dorin Chirtoaca are trusted by 6% and, respectively, 2% of the respondents.
85% of those polled are concerned about the price rises, 57% about the children’s future, while 54% that they could lose their jobs. About 1/3 of the population is afraid of disease, while 20% of the Moldovans fear the establishment of dictatorship.
The opinions about the foreign policy are divided almost equally. 49% of the respondents are for closer relations with the West, while 48% are in favor of closer relations with Russia. 47% want Moldova to become part of the EU, 46% want Moldova to remain in the CIS, and only 3% want it to unite with Romania.
The survey was carried out between October 22 and 30 and covered a sample of 1,528 Moldovans aged 18 and over. The margin of sampling error is ±2.5%.
