Communists nominate Grecianyi for Moldova's top job

The Moldovan Communists Party has nominated ex-Prime Miniser Zinaida Grecianyi for President, the newly installed speaker Vladimir Voronin announced, following the party's plenary meeting on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Voronin described Grecianyi as being an honest, fair, worthy person and a good economist. “If this candidate isn't good enough, then I don't know what on earth can satisfy our Moldovan opposition”, declared Vladimir Voronin. Zinaida Grecianyi is married and a mother of two. On 31 March 2008 she was elected as Moldova's Prime Minister. Prior to this post, she had served as Senior Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and director of the Budget Department. Greceanyi is a graduate of the Finance and Economics College and the Moldova State University. Outgoing president Vladimir Voronin expressed his hope that the former speaker, Marian Lupu, would become head of the Cabinet. The formal power to nominate a prime minister is held by the head of state. The nomination is then to be considered by Parliament. Greceanyi and Lupu would form “a dream team that will restore political stability for a long time, if not forever”, Voronin added.
